This is a collectors coin, thats why there is such a high premium.

Typically you should buy American Gold Eagles if you are American.

You should have spent that money on a 46" HDTV LCD TV.

order said by may 24. since it's the government, that probably means may 24 2012.

Well, welcome to numismatics. I would recommend a membership in ANA. I doubt you will lose money on this particular coin, but you left bullion light years behind. Also, welcome on board the "waiting for ever" train with the rest of us poor saps hoping the mint will someday ship us our UHRDE. :ok:

I just called. My "by March 6th" order is now late April. This is already delayed from early February.

I now must assume I will never see it. They'll probably cancel the order - of course they "reserve the right to cancel orders."

my one question is, what if bullion is $2,000 an ounce in may? do i still get charged $1299 for it, or do they reprice it and charge me $2300?

You pay the price at the time you ordered the coin.

They are pricey. I saw a 2009 ultra high relief go for $1700 at a local coin show I went to last weekend.

:confused_ma: GAE are nice....but I typically buy the best deal(though I did buy a panda once to please the wife).

Two trains of reasoning when buying. If the schiet really hits the fan, the collectors crap will be no more valuable than any other ounce of gold (or at least not much). But at that point, I guess it really wouldn't matter much since we would all be in survival mode anyways. But chances are that in 30 or so years, someone will want this coin at a premium.

Coins from China may not always REAL. There is talk (validated) that there are fake coins on the market coming out of there.

Anyone else have any input on this?

I like the Panda coins and that has been something that I always worry about my overseas purchases.

Gold Is Ready To Go Very High Very Fast

Hubert Moolman
9 March 2009

It appears that gold is ready to go very high very fast, as measured in all currencies of the world. It seems that gold is in the process of completing the mega cup and handle pattern that started to form in 1980 when gold was at about US $850. The interesting part is the fact that it seems that we are in the final phase which should take us to about US $ 1 300 (about R 14 000) and eventually to about US $ 1 700 (about R 18 760) in a very short time relative to the 29 years since 1980. Do not be surprised to see $50, $100 and more up days, should key levels be broken.

The correction to about US $900 (and so far reversal to US $ 939) was the confirmation that the pattern is still very much on course. It seems that all major corrections, as is the nature of this pattern, are now completed. It now needs to get up to US$ 1000 and just above in a short period (with very brief minor corrections on the way there. For more on this cup and handle formation see the article by Jordan Roy-Byrne/Trendsman.

I have to state that it is not the potential high paper prices that make me bullish about gold, but its fundamental nature, and the current situation the world finds itself in. It is not the paper price, but what you can buy with it that matters.

During the correction, it was an opportune time to remind myself of why I am storing my wealth in gold and silver.

This is some of what I came up with: (please note that I am mostly repeating what I wrote previously, but that is exactly what I was doing - reminding myself)

Gold and silver is money and money is gold and silver, and money (real, not paper) is the safest and most consistent store of wealth over long periods of time and is especially important during times of uncertainty. There is a lot of fear and uncertainty today, therefore I store what little wealth I have in money, I store it in gold and silver.

As time passes, more people are realising the fact that the world's monetary system is fraud and that gold and silver is real money and not the paper money that the world uses today. The traffic is one-way, more, not less people come to the realisation that paper money is fraud and ditch it for gold and silver (the potential is huge). Maybe, right now someone who is reading this is ditching paper money for gold and silver. This fact is what makes me most bullish about silver, since it is the form of money that has the greatest potential due to the fact that it has more room to move from where it is (a demonetized monetary asset) to a fully monetized asset.

The debt levels in the world are enormous, and it is an inescapable fact that debt can only be properly and fully settled with real assets. Some assets are better than others when it comes to discharging debt. Gold and silver are real assets, and due to the fact that they are money, they are the ultimate form of payment and settlement of debt.

Due to these enormous debt levels, assets that are acceptable as proper settlement of debt will be in huge demand if these debts are to be properly settled; and this hold true whether debt levels are extinguished by default as well. Gold and silver is in huge demand, and this will accelerate.

Should the big debtors of the world attempt to "settle" their debt with more debt (inflationary) such as paper promises (like what is currently happening), then paper prices of real assets will explode, with gold and silver leading the way.

Paper money, bonds and other promises to pay are all subject to possible default, and during these times, default is a very common occurrence. Real assets are not subject to default, and gold and silver are real assets that you can hold in your hand, and are financially liquid (liquidity is even more essential during such times).

Paper money, bonds and other promises to pay are certainly at risk of impairment during these deflationary times, due to possible partial default or delays due to lack of debtors' ability to pay on time due to liquidity constraints. Remember an assets' value to you is less if you are not able to use it when required.

During inflationary times you are at risk, because though you might get the promised payment, but by the time you get it, it has lost a lot of its value and basically all of its value during hyperinflation.

This is all I have time for now, however it is enough to help me confirm that gold and silver is the best option when it comes to storing my wealth.

The US Mint has stated they are having trouble getting the planchets and warned of long waiting periods for this coin.
There is no guarantee you will get one if you order now, and if you do, it may not be until next Christmas.
Hope this helps.

Are you saying that an order to the US mint does not guarantee a deal OR its just the waiting period?

If its just the waiting period, then its just like hedging it at $1299 unless they do not guarantee the sales price as well! :confused_m:

That's kinda the point. You can't HAVE it for $1299. You can order it for $1299 and HOPE....

The "hold it in yer hand" price is $1500.

First, congratulations on your first purchase. Even if gold went to 650 sometime this year, it is a good long term investment. Get ready for the ride, volatility is going to be the only constant for a while, imo.

I personally would prefer to get whatever I buy in my hands very soon (5 seconds or less) after I put the cash on the counter (no counter-party risk), but it's the added price for getting a numismatic piece. If possible, I'd say buy some more physical in the meantime, GAEs.

Good luck, all the best.

No it won't be reported but you are still supposed to pay capital gains on it if you make a profit when you sell....also some states tax bullion purchases. You should know your state laws regarding this...

You just made a very good decision. That being said, stay on this track... the POG is falling, and that's a good thing right now, because it will afford you the chance to pick up even more gold. Now you've got the UHR coin, next time just get yourself a regular GAE.

Sure thing. They are beauties though....

On the other hand. if the spot price is down you'll get the coin and they will honor the price.

If I ever saw one at a "reasonable" premium over the spot price of gold, I would grab it in a minute. Premiums fluctuate, so there may be a time when you can grab one of these for $100 over spot. (I wouldn't hold my breath though)

I'm not willing to pay the high premiums on SAE's either. Maybe I'm too cheap. Got spoiled when you could pick up junk silver at spot any time you want.....

American Eagle Uncirculated/Proof Gold Coins
Production of United States Mint American Eagle Gold Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins. Currently, all available 22-karat gold blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-185 to produce these coins in quantities sufficient to meet public demand . . . .

The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Gold Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of gold bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Gold Coin products. Additionally, as a result of the recent numismatic product portfolio analysis, fractional sizes of American Eagle Gold Uncirculated Coins will no longer be produced.

i was listening to robby noel on the national intel report, and he said that he called the mint and was told what was posted 2 or 3 posts back. mainly that the mint has stopped making UHR eagles and the uncirculated silver eagles to focus production on unprecendeted demand for regular gold and silver coins.

anynoe who gets an UHR should have it made.

With the premium they are charging on the UHF, they ought to be able to just buy gold off comex and use it to make the coin.
But, of course, we all know why they won't

Getting a UHR is like hitting the numis gold jackpot because The U.S.mint is playing "hide and seek" with your order saying that the UHR has been ordered only to cancel it later because they cannot fullfill the order because of whatever reason they give you. As I mentioned earlier in another post, I saw a UHR at a recent coin show and he was selling it for $1700. That is the thickest coin that have ever seen. Chad, sorry that your order that was "cancelled". :signs14:

I did not check on this but there might be a UHR on Ebay, however, you will be paying "Ebay" prices (much more than $1299) for it. I might be wrong on this because I did not check ebay for any UHR's but I would not be surprised to see some people on ebay selling the UHR's for a quick profit...............I just checked ebay (I am not planning to buy a UHR). I see one (raw UHR) for $1325.00 but the auction does not end until 6 P.M. on Mar. 12...........Another auction currently at $1225.00 bid with just over one day left on the auction. If you are still interested in the UHR, you can type "2009 Ultra High Relief" in the Ebay search. The UHR auction bid prices I saw on ebay will probably go up dramatically as the auctions get closer to the end because of the demand for this coin. Ebay is probably your only option for the UHR unless there is a coin show in your area in the near future that has one on sale. Good luck to you on this. It is a very nice coin IMHO.

Why would I come to you for meat if I already had a panda? Aren't pandas made of meat?

No telling when they'll get the next batch out...hopefully never.:applause_

SHUT.....YOUR.....MOUTH. :secruity:

Until I get mine I think we should be sending the Army into South Africa to get the gold we need. A few marine divisions into Western Australia wouldn't hurt either.

Chad, this really sucks and is very dissapointing, what is even more wrong about it is that the mint is still showing these coins as "in stock" and accepting orders.

I'd wait if you can, then snatch up an oz. round of something else, at the lowest premium, or maybe consider a PAMP or CS Bar oz'er.

I ordered about 2 hours after they went on sale the first day and still no coin. But the good news it that it did finally ship apparently on March 12. Supposedly one day after the needed March 11 date for first strike designation.

Silly me. Having never done business with the mint before, I thought they may be a competant organization. lol What was I thinking? They're no different than any of the other government run bureaucratic cesspools that have no accountability.

I think I'll just forget about having it graded and sock it away for the long term.

man you have really got to hate those crooks. you lock in a price and they just make up random excuses and cancel your order. my god if I did business like that I would be parked outside the court house mon to friday.

eeek. i can't believe i just ordered a coin for $1299. i know nothing about gold, hope i made a good decision. i figured the other thread about them was 15 pages long, so what the hell. you only live once, right?

Good Score. Someday you'll look back and realize this.

Meanwhile stash it away carefully and forget about for a few years.

Maranatha,

P.S. Next Gold you buy, get a plain AU-BU coin that you can actually touch and feel.
